Progressive creationism
Gap theory
Day-age theory
Progressive creationism is an attempt to harmonize the current beliefs about long ages (old earth), stellar evolution, and the fossil record with the Bible. Do all scientists hold to this view? Absolutely not! Do theologians hold to this view? Some, but many hold to the biblical statement that God created the universe and everything in it in six literal days (Genesis 1; Exodus 20:11, 31:17).

The idea that a vast period of time elapsed between the first two verses of Genesis is known as the gap theory. Most variations of this theory interpret Genesis 1:1 as the first creation, which included the creation of the heavens, the earth, plants and animals, and even a race of humans preceding Adam! Perhaps billions of years then elapsed, during which time Satan and his angels fell and corrupted the inhabitants of the earth. God then judged and destroyed the earth and all its inhabitants. Thus, the earth became "formless and void" (Genesis 1:2) and remained that way for eons. The second creation, according to the gap theory, began in Genesis 1:3 with the first day of the (re)creation week—the familiar six-day creation. This series of events is also called the "ruin-reconstruction theory" or "the pre-Adamic cataclysm theory."
The Gap theory was an attempt to insert the billions of years of earth’s geological history into the Bible. Now that scientists have provided evidences that long ages are not necessary to explain earth’s history is this theory necessary? Was it ever necessary to compromise the Bible with uncertain and changing views of evolution? The Bible explicitly states that God created everything in six literal days, the Genesis Flood was worldwide, and there is no mention of a recreation. Finally, there is no scientific support from the fossil record to support such a claim.
