A course leader should have the following tools and knowledge:
- An interest or background knowledge of the subject matter in order to lead discussions and answer questions
- Effective presentation and communication skills
To assist you in becoming a course leader, we recommend that you order the following materials:
- The video package, which comes with two course videos, one copy of the course manual, a leader’s guide, and a computer disk that contains PowerPoint slides, quizzes, and answer keys.
- The Presentations Skills manual
- The Origin of Life Video.
We recommend the following steps in becoming a course leader.
- View the Origin of life video (55-minute video)
- Read the student manual
- View the two video tapes that come with the video package
- Read the leader’s guide that comes with the video package
- Read through the Communication Skills manual (45 pages)
- Read the small group leader’s guide (20 pages)

- Let people know what an equipping course is about. This can be done by using information from this web site and the preview video (see next bullet).
- Show people the equipping course video preview. This is a 16-minute preview of what an equipping course is about. This is a free video and can be obtained by contacting Training ETC: m.riddle@verizon.net
- Keep the number of students to a manageable level.
- It is recommended that you have 1 assistant (called a small group leader) for every 6 students. (See small group leader training at SGL)
- If you are the only class leader (no assistants), a maximum recommended size is about 20 students
- Get your assistants (small group leaders) trained prior to the beginning of the course start date. Small group leader training includes: reading the student manual, reading the small group leader’s guide (downloadable from this web site), and viewing the Origin of Life video.
